Hi,

Recently purchased a 66 plate XC90 R Design with Polestar Optimisation. I didn’t expect it to be great on fuel but it’s worse than the BMW 435D I’ve just got rid of.

I’m getting about 29.5 mpg on average, filled up last week for £97 and got 500 miles from the tank….

What’s everyone else’s mpg?

Not sure if this is the normal and to just accept it or if something wrong.

I’m considering getting it remapped to try to improve fuel economy, anyone had this done?

Many thanks

Davie

What engine and also, what about the many many variables that could be unique to your situation - tyre pressures, usage, how many people on board, when was it's last service, binding caliper perhaps... its also nigh on 2 tons of SUV with, I assume, an automatic gearbox so 29.5mpg doesn't seem too bad to be fair.

What do the manufacturers figures suggest and what does Honest John suggest should be the norm for similar driving, but also accounting for "the real world" as it were. As for a remap, that's override the Polestar map I believe and how far would £500 on fuel go? Again assuming the economy remap actually provides, which many don't...

D5 non-R Design, non-Polestar.

We're getting in a similar range (28-32).

Yeah I understand all the variables can affect but just looking for a rough figure.

It’s a 2L, around 230bhp.

Seems they all not great then and just need to accept it lol. Still consider a remap but don’t know anyone who’s had one….

Depends what mix of driving you're doing.

My wife's XC90 D5 (non Polestar) does a lot of town driving ferrying the kids around and then the odd longer journey 2-3 times a month. Overall average is 29.6mpg, but into the mid/high 30s on a run...

My long term average is 32mpg. It can do 35/36mpg on a run but generally day to day gets about 29/30mpg. It’s a 66 plate D5. Tbh what you’re getting sounds about right, it is a big heavy 4x4
