850 T5R cruise control issue

Recently treated myself to a T5 R, but it has non functioning cruise control.
I understand it is vacuum operated but the pump doesn’t seem to be working. Does it only work at a certain speed? Or when the system is activated? Any other common faults to look out for? The car is pre OBD and I haven’t yet worked out the fiendish cable and holes diagnostics lol.

For anyone interested, it was a bunch of tired rubber link hoses. Replaced and working fine now
