Our car has been showing "Transmission Service Required" whenever we do a longer journey, although the distance required is slowlyreducing before it shows... Generally it requires dual carriage/ motorway driving to provoke it though.

My local Volvo Indy (Camberley Independent Volvo Centre) has suggested to change the gearbox oil - he doesn't do this, and couldn't recommend anywhere either.

A question for the hive mind:

Can anyone recommend a good gearbox place please? Gearboxes are expensive items to mess up! I am based around J3/M3.

Thanks folks

A Volvo indy that doesn't change gearbox oil? Seems a bit odd to me.
Is it a complex way of doing it on the XC60? Most garages should be able to change the gearbox oil really.

Are there any other Volvo specialists near you?

Any gearbox company should be able to do this, cost will dented on if it’s the older Aisin gearbox or the Ford powershift gearbox, although if it’s the Ford box it’s probably a warning to say it’s broken. Volvo speak for something is wrong is usually service.

Cost wise, it’s the oil that’s expensive and although it’s reasonably quick to change there is a lot of time waiting for oils to warm up. Budget £200-300 for the Aisin box and £300-400 for the Ford box.

Our local gearbox company suggests changes of 10-20k max on the Ford box.

Local stealer came back with clutch seals need replacing - knocked them down to ~£1600. Local gearbox place said about the same although they were talking about a reconditioned unit…

Have left it with the stealer- at least I know the warranty will be honoured if anything goes wrong…
