Hi All,

I am hoping you maybe able to assist.

I currently have an 06 S60 D5 which i bought on 108k and is now on 210k, it's been brilliant for my 90 mile daily commute but i am now needing to replace it due to the lack of rear room preventing me being able to fit my two young sons in the back, coupled to it needing a new AC evaporator and the clutch starting to go.

I am sure I have read, and am hoping! That the facelifted, 2009 ish shape V70, has improved rear space over the previous generation? Normally i would go and have a look for myself but it is proving a bit diffuclt in the current circumstances.

Many thanks in advance,

Hodgie

I had that V70 for over 100k miles . I'm 6'1" and my passengers never had a problem with room in the back. Super comfy car.

Similar. I ran a P3 V70 D5 for over 125k miles and could easily get 4 adults in it in comfort if I pulled my seat forward a tad (I'm over 6' 3"). Also the luggage area is huge - you can get a Euro pallet in the back (and I have). I think the dread hand of the Ford accountants started to show more on the P3 then the P2 and some bits are a bit more flimsy (I had a P2 T5 V70 that I also put 130k miles on - one of the best cars I've ever owned)

I have to say on our P2 V70 the rear leg room is bang average

I’m 6ft2 and the rear leg room isn’t the best

Doesn’t matter as it’s only our cockerpoo strapped into the back!!!

That said I don’t care, the cabin layout and front is a nice place to be, uncluttered etc

Boot space is mega

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. The P3 sounds like a good possibility then, i wish the P2 was as I really like my current S60 but being 6ft 4 its bascially a 2 seater with me in it! It has been perfect for the commute up to now and the D5 engine is great, i'll be sad to see it go.

Biggest regret ever getting rid of my 06 S60 for an 09 V70. Funnily enough the S60 I sold was on eBay last week and I could have bought it back but we now need an estate.

The V70 has a drink problem, I guess being auto vs manual doesn’t help and it also weighs alot more but 400 miles to a tank is a joke. As for legroom I would say its not much better than the S60, my Honda Civic has more leg room

I've had P2 and P3 cars and the latter is bigger, though not massively. Rear leg room is maybe +2" at best but hard to say. I'm 6ft 2 with a pretty big toddler sat behind me and he's got plenty space - happy to go and do some measuring if you need.

Ironically, I found the P2 cars to be only marginally better than a Mk5 Astra (by millimeters) as far as real world tests go... ie putting a huge rear facing child seat in both cars, front seats where they'd be normally and see how much space there is (or, isn't) between the child seat and the back if the front seats.

I'd also say, despite driving Volvos for years including several "real" ones and having owned several P2 cars, I don't buy into this Ford era stuff being a step back... I've currently got a P3 XC70 that's done 208k and it's a far far better car and tool than my P2 cars.

But, personal preference etc etc
