volvo 850 T5-R
Discussion
If you can lay yours hands on a Gul in decent condition with UK provenance you will pay strong money
Some silly figures going around and without knowing more specifics of the car in question it’s a tough one to answer
If you can let us know more info on the Gul that would help
With regard to the imported stuff I’ve no idea, the owner of a mint UK 855R I am not sure what it does to the residual values of our cars, not that it matters to me as I won’t sell it, the 850/P1/P2 V70R seem to be coming over here PDQ

How many owners?
Service history?
Standard or modified?
For that type of money I would be expecting and absolutely mint example, this wouldn’t be the 2 Guls up for sale on eBay would it??
If so I wish the seller would put less copy and paste nonsense and give the facts that really matter.
This one you are referring to has the APs?
It looks absolutely stunning in the pictures, need to get rid of those Pirelli’s though! Also needs a strut brace too.
Like I said for 16k it should want for absolutely and I mean absolutely nothing.

Is that one of the ones on eBay from the same seller? One is my old one (m513eah) which I sold many years ago but that’s up for £21k! The previous owner selling it initially wanted 18k and I would have been tempted at a more reasonable cost - it ended up going to a trader who is selling it now. To me it’s worth about 12k but truly it’s worth what someone will pay for it. The trader freely admits that he’s happy to keep them for some time before the right buyer comes along and pays what’s being asked.
The one I think you are looking at I believe has been converted from a auto to manual at some point so not truly original to me - check with the seller. I wouldn’t pay the premium demanded by the Gul / cream yellow cars personally, and would probably seek out a 850r which appear to be available for around 10k, or even a decent 850 t5 if you can find one for much less.
There is a Facebook T-5R group and the previous owners of both cars are on there.

thanks for all the answers chaps, yes it one of the 2 for sale on ebay, fra to much bumf on volvo rather than car condition yes,
the one i was looking at was the cheaper one, thats the one thats been upgraded, not sure if thats a good thing or not, seems all his photos are mixed up and intermingled, hard to get spesific answers as some answers are avoided, that and the price has made me not want to bother with them really, but they do look nice though,
seen a couple of R models, uk and jap ones but not sure what the auto box of that eara are like, like the thought of a jap import as had a jap discovery a few years ago and that was as clean and tidy as you could ever wish for,
i had a 1996 850 T5 ex police car 20 years ago and loved them ever since, so now on the luck out for another, idealy a R or t5r,
thanks.

A friend of mine Neal sold his absolutely near perfect red 850R Manual that wanted for nothing, one of the very best in the country for top money. 16k for that GUL is far too strong money unless already stated is beyond mint.
Btw I am not one for an argument regarding a T-5R and 850R nonsense.

so anyone have any thoughts on the 850's auto box,
The autos are fine for normal driving ( I’ve owned manual and auto 850R ) but that’s it, the manuals are slightly quicker and more fun plus worth more. That cream yellow for 15995 was sold in 2019 for about 6k exactly as it is now. The guy that sold it in 2019 spent a fortune on it having the engine forged,19T turbo, gripper diff plus loads of other bits. All the work was done by Shem Green of Shemtek in Nottingham. The guy owned a cream yellow saloon and an estate, I bought the saloon and another chap bought the estate in the some month April 2019. The reg on mine is N800GUL very similar!
It’s a lovely car and if you want one to drive and have fun in then that’s the one to buy but not at 15995! It’s probably worth about 10k max but a lot of people are trying to make a quick buck out of old cars.
Prices have certainly been on the up - the one up at 21k as sold for circa £3500 back when I sold it in around 2007 (I think). It was a pretty good car then but not perfect. Needed an engine/gearbox mount and a couple of cosmetic bits but it was decent. Not a huge amount of relevance to today I appreciate!
