Hi Everybody,

I'm off looking at a 2018 (late 2017) Volvo V90 T8 Inscription later today.

One quick question I can't find the answer to is the differences engine wise between early (2018) and later (2019-20) T8.

I see the early ones are:

  • Euro 6
  • 235kw + 65kw
  • 400nm + 150nm
  • 4.8s (0-62mph)
later ones are:

  • Euro 6d Temp
  • 223kw + 65kw
  • 400nm + 240nm
  • 5.3s (0-62mph)
The later ones have a slightly worse co2/mpg rating, but this is down to the new NEFZ testing circle, as I understand.
Will the older feel more powerful than the new one?

Is the electric motor at the rear axle a different one than before, or is it just software?
Are the batteries the same? If so, is it possible to unlock the substantially higher torque of the newer one?

And finally, I have seen the car roles on gorgeous 21"

Now I have seen in Volvo documents, that these are not supposed to be used on the Twin Engine models. Why is this?
They would be suitable on the normal V90 and on the XC90/60 T8, but not the V90 T8.

Thanks in advance.
I will keep you posted!

I bought the car ! party

Dealer pics for now, I will get the car first thing next year!

It's a 2018 T8 with 40k miles on it, comes in the gorgeous colour combination of Osmium Grey, Amber leather and linear walnut.
It also has every single option (bar the family pack confused) and was a £100k just 3 years ago (CHF 130k) eek.

To answer my own question:

As far as I understand the MY18 lacks the petrol particulate filter and is thus slightly down on power. From MY19 on this was part of the Euro 6d-temp package. The new MY21 ones have a slightly higher battery capacity (11.6 vs. 10.4 kWh)

What I couldn't figure out is where the higher torque of the electric motor (240 NM vs 150 NM) comes from. Power is identical @ 65kW.

And also why the gorgeous 21" turbine wheels are not suitable for the T8 remains a mystery.

So if anybody knows anything, it would be much appreciated!

And to answer another question myself:

According to Volvo literature there is no difference and all ERAD (Electric Rear Axle Drive) are 240Nm of torque.
I got a wrong number from the german Wikipedia page boxedin
