Afternoon all.

I’m toying with the idea of replacing my 2008 Saab 9.3 1.9 TiD with a V40.

I want to go for petrol, rather than diesel and I’d like to spend no more than £10-11,000. Ideally, I want one with as much “go” as possible.

I know they had a facelift around 2016 with the headlights being changed, but other than that, what should I be looking for and what should I avoid? Ideally I’d like a T5 “equivalent”, but unless I’m missing something obvious, the V40 only seems to go up to a T3, while the XC goes to a T4, but they seem very rare beasts.

Hi,

I have a 2018 R Design Pro 2.0l T3. Owned it since new and love it.

Great car, nice and comfortable with a good low to mid torque punch. Its not brilliant revving the arse out of it as its not meant for that really. Perfectly acceptable performance though.

You can get the engine remapped to about 210bhp but that's about it on the turbo that is fitted. If you really need more then get the 250 bhp T5 version but I have a feeling they may be more than your budget if you can find one.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong... but I haven't seen a facelift V40 with the T4 engine. There are some T5s but still very rare.

You may get a pre facelift T5 in budget. Possibly. The standard LED lights on the facelift are the main difference but I wouldn't say that's a reason to look for a facelift car. A pre facelift with the xenon's would be just as good functionally and I almost think the pre facelift looks a bit better.

I've got a 2014 T3 1.6 which I'm really happy with. Quick enough and great on the motorway, quiet and economical.

I had a courtesy XC T3 which was loads quicker than mine. I actually felt a little disappointed getting back in to my one.

Not sure on the V40, but on the V60 I think they got Sat Nav and DAB as standard with the facelift.

I have one of the last pre-facelift R-design T3 cars in the same colour and have been very impressed with it. We were on the lookout for one with the upgraded stereo and panoramic roof, both are great. The only downside of the sunroof is that it is so far back, we previously had a 2006 Civic and the panoramic roof came far enough forward that it was easily viewed from the drivers/passenger seat where as the Volvo is more about letting in some more light.

At the moment the WBAC price is hovering just under £10k so I would imagine the OP might struggle to get one for under £11k.

Great cars though.
