It should be a subject of serious concern for many amongst us, particularly those considering a later volvo built by this chinese owned entity, that they are considering full amalgamation of Volvo with its owner Geely.

That the Swedes themselves are now fearful of long term chinese plans for Volvo Cars and their many other Swedish investments in their economy and wider state security concerns is highlighted by this article in the New York Times....

Volvo havent been independent for a long time now. Ford used to own a decent chunck of the business. How is a chinese company going to be any different?

Why should the corporate structure of the company be of serious concern to owners and prospective purchasers?

We are seeing a rise of nationalism and protectionism... fuelled sometimes by some of the media.

After the bullying I have seen from China trying to silence nations who criticise them on Covid I want to own as little as possible of anything that is associated with China

Because the Swedish mentality is to produce honest, dependable, environmentally responsible, safe products that last for years and the Chinese mentality is to produce ste with no long term thinking past the immediate benefit to the seller?

I had been considering an XC40 but might have to follow the herd to an Evoke.

Is the TATA Motors philosophy different to that of Geely?

How we are all suckered in by marketing and the media....smile

When was Volvo last Swedish? (Granted the little flag on my front seat is nice).

If Geely change the ethos of the brand fundamentally then they will shed customers. They didn't buy it to do that.

If Geely release crap product, they will shed customers. They didn't buy it to do that either.

Volvo seem to be releasing decent product at present. It'll be interesting to see where it goes.

By all means make a stand against a regime you don't like, but I suspect you'll struggle even remotely eradicating Chinese influence in your life, and would likely be surprised about what's behind the majority of stuff you use and buy day in, day out.

Went to my Volvo dealer during the start of the pandemic as my car was coming up 3 years old. I wanted to extend the Volvo warranty after the 3 year date , so asked about this before it hit 3 years old. Was told Volvo were extending the warranty as a goodwill gesture for 3 months due to covid 19 and accepting the service agreement for the same time as well ( we had a service plan included).
I then, when the Volvo dealership called about booking in the service a couple of weeks ago,I asked about the warranty again and spoke to the same person over the phone that I spoke to face to face in the dealership. She started to deny the conversation we had. She gave me a number to call at Volvo. I spoke to someone else, who ummed and ahh'd about it too. Then got another call from Volvo advising that the 3 month warranty was in place . I wont need to extend the warranty until the end of September. They would call me in the middle of September to set it up.
Last week, I had another call from Volvo, saying that Volvo Uk had decided to not carry on with the 'goodwill' warranty and I would be out of warranty from now, unless I paid up for the warranty on that day. If I did pay for the extended warranty , they would now honour the 3 month extension. I did pay it and had to pay before the warranty starts .
Its pretty poor from whoever to make this decision and wonder in what back room they made and then cancelled this 'goodwill' extension. Surely this isnt good PR.
We have had issues with Volvo previously on leaking windscreens and they do bury their heads and ignore . As to if this is Sweden talking or China, I have no idea.

Always, always get confirmation in writing and take the name/number and note time and date of these sort of conversation.

They're all just car dealers.

Wait until your 1yr Old V90 decides to self combust into a crispy shell.

Havent had any sort of follow up from Volvo. At least insurance paid out quickly but has put me off another.

Was this a D4? Something to do with the inlet manifold?

It’s was a V90 CC D4.
I asked about this at start of year but apparently only affected the diesel up to 2017 so mine wasn’t part of the recall list.

Guess I’ll never know what caused it as it was just a shell after the fire.
