Morning guy's

I have a 2011 V70 D5, (202bhp). Have any of you had any experience with a remap for this engine? Just after some real life figures for mpg after and is there a big difference in performance . They all claim decent results but was interested to see if its worth doing. Thanks a lot

I looked into it at the time when I was considering a D5 but the main consensus was that the ECU on a D5 is a tough nut to crack for "most" tuners

But there's some suggestions in this thead which has actually been updated since I last went hunting around

The Mrs had her S60 D5 polestar chipped. That was supposed to take it from 185, to 215hp. It's not been dyno'd for verification but it certainly feels much more lively. Think the mpg went up ever so slightly afterwards, but that might be just due to her giving it a bit more of a boot after the tuning.

Cheers for the replies guys. Celtic Tuning seem to offer decent figures for the D5 and seem to have a decent rep. The car doesn't hang about anyway but a few MPG's would be nice.

Its a cracking engine. Fairly poor mpg around town and if you are booting it about. Will happily sit at 80 mph and return 40+ with the cruise control on. Any faster than that and you're in the mid 30's. Plenty of torque. Mine goes really well considering its a big estate.

Where possible stick with brand specialists. CT are one of the better generalists but focus less on gains and more on how it'll drive afterwards.

Good to know thanks. Do you have any recommendations for Volvo tuning?

Think I'd be inclined to go the Volvo/Polestar route if I were to map mine. More expensive than others, but it's more than just engine mapping as it maps the autobox, too. Outright torque figures might not be as high as other 'mappers claim to get, but that's to protect the 'box/clutch from getting overloaded.

Looking at the Polestar stats for my D5 engine, the torque figure remains the same, you just get it over a broader rev-range (plus another 30 horses). More usable torque/power AND longevity smile

Personal preference would be someone like Hilton Tuning, but it's not cheap (for a number of reasons). Bad maps cause faults, whether they are exacerbated mechanical faults, bad software driven mechanical failures or bad software failures. Cheap rarely ends well.

Ok thanks. Not after a cheap set up. Would rather it was done right.

Polestar are over double the price of most tuners. But i suppose that could be worth it in the long run. Another 20 bhp and 40nm of torque for my engine. Its only done 90k so its got plenty of life left in it. Plus there is a dealer 2 miles from me.

Got mine done, they had trouble cracking the ÉCU, eventually got it done. To be honest I cannot recognise a major difference and it still drinks the fuel!

The change on my old Volvo S60 was light and day and fuel consumption was low 40’s D5 euro 4)

The euro 5 i am getting low 30’s

An Audi specialist near me that uses DNA tuning, he had to remove the ÉCU
