V70 remote locking playing up.

Can any one advise on this problem that is driving me mad?
When I go to lock the car useing the key fob its 'pot luck' wether it works or not. Sometimes the fob button does nothing and the car won't lock.
When this happens I have to get back in the car,shut the door, start the engine and increase the revs for about 30 secs.
Stop engine, get out of car, close door and with luck the c/locking works and locks the car.If not repeat procedure.
I have replaced both key fob batteries but don't know what to do next.
Any help and ideas would be appreciated.

Ps the car is a V70 2.0d, face lift 58 plate, 140k.
