Hi, appreciate any thoughts on this one.
Volvo XC90, key was a little stiff going into the ignition but eventually turned & the engine started.
However, something's clearly mangled up in the lock as the steering lock is now on all the time, even when the engine is running.

Tried what I can, spare key etc. but it's going nowhere!

Going to struggle to roll the car down the drive as the wheels are on a very slight angle & it'll no doubt hit the wall of my house if I tried it.

Full member of the RAC, should I try them or go to a mobile car locksmith or straight to a mobile mechanic??
Hopefully, someone will be able to drill the steering lock out so we can at least use the car.

Appreciate any advice.

Have you tried really wrenching the steering wheel to one side or the other? I wonder if the lock is 'just' on?

RAC I would have thought.

Hi , I had this exact same with my 2006 Volvo S60 . I had to get a locksmith out who says that the barrel had/ has a common fault where it grips the key locking the steering lock ?????
He sorted it in 10mins by doing a modification to the barrel ... cost £120

Thanks for the responses.
To confirm, I did give it a generous yank to see if it's just stuck, it's definitely locked on.

Interesting that the same issue was seen on the 2006 S60, will try a local vehicle locksmith.
Mine's a 2006 auto.

Maybe disconnect the battery for 10mins and let all the systems reset themselves.

Is it auto

If so I’d suggest trying to rock the car back and forth whilst jiggling the steering wheel and fiddling the key

Perhaps try some so of lubricant into the barrel if you can manage it.

It IS the little pin inside the lock.

Common problem, google will give you a number of ways to fix it
