Hi,

The lighting ECU has failed on my car, I have seen ones for sale on ebay and reasonable prices as opposed to having mine repaired at a cost of £150.00 and the loss of use of the car for 4 days.

I work as a community nurse and need the car pretty much 24/7.

I have found out that the ECU if replaced will need cloning. If I directly replace the unit will I still have lights, I have heard that I will not have central locking, I can live with that if that is the only drawback.

I am driving at night on full beam and fogs...

Luckily I am in the countryside.

Please advise

Cheers Kev

Sorry completly confused here? I dont know why you wouldnt have lost locking if your lights arent working correctly?

First off, what engine is your car? and year? and what has happened to make you think the lighting ECU has failed? Do you mean the main car ECU? Probably a bit more info would defenitly help.

With regards to the main ECU it doesnt take 4 days to do but you can buy a new or used ECU and clone your current settng etc onto your new or 2nd hand replacement. Mine didnt take long to do and I now have an RS MK2 ECU in mine and all configs in the car are working fine.

What exactly is your problem? are your lights not working? or your beems stuck on full beem? and do you have bixenons?

I too was confused, but then again I dont profess to be a tech guy just someone with a problem.

I had a recommended auto electrician look at the car, he removed the ECU told me it was no god and needed replacement. Or he could send it away and have it repaired for £125/150.00 and change labour at £48.00 per hour.

I had other priorities to spend my money on at the time.

Just so happened that some little toe rag broke my half retracted antenna, I decided to buy one of the short bendy types.

I notice there was some dodgy wiring cut into the loom for the antenna and a very loose earth wire.

After removing and fitting the new antenna, I too the car for a short test drive, parked on my brothers drive and noticed the light reflection on his garage door.

I am assuming the old antenna was causing the problem.

All I know is that I am pleased I did not pay the electrician, this replacement and light fix cost me £9.95 and 45 minutes of my time....

Everyone is out to rip you off....lol
