Volvo - XC70 central locking behaviour
Discussion
I run a 2011 Mercedes as my daily. When I drive off all the doors lock. When I stop and remove the key or open the driver's door from inside, all the doors unlock. This works well.
I am now borrowing my father in law's 2014 XC70. When I drive off all the doors lock. When I stop and remove the key it does nothing to the locks. If I open the driver's door from inside, only that door unlocks and all the other doors remain locked. So every time I exit the car to get my son out of the back I keep finding the back door locked. This is infuriating.
The short term answer is to press the unlock button on the door as I get out. But is there a way to make it so that it behaves like my Mercedes? Almost everything else is controllable (like the child locks, which are electric and operated from a switch on the door, for example) so I'm hoping there's something simple I am missing. I've looked in the manual but I can't find anything that relates to this issue.
Thanks.

We have gone from a 2012 C class to a 2014 XC70 and our car does the same so I know the issue your having. It has now just become a habit when leaving the car and the kids are in the back to hit the unlock button so we can open the doors for them or if safe (i.e. no cars parked next to us) release the child locks so they can exit themselves. Now I am used to it I like it but it was irritating to begin with.
On the 2014 XC70 that behaviour is configurable within the settings, so I could turn it off. Presumably you could turn it on, assuming the same underlying architecture?
Another idiosyncrasy I have noticed is that when I lock the car the wing mirrors fold in, and when I unlock it they unfold. So, during times like these (Christmas) when I am going to and from the car a lot but not actually driving it the wing mirrors fold and unfold needlessly.
Mercedes and Audi do it so that the wing mirrors unfold when you start the engine. Much more sensible in my opinion.
