Hi
I am leaning very heavily towards getting an xc90 on a lease.
Being into nice looking things I am drawn towards the R design. But am questioning the ride. Is it still ok or does the wheels kill it?
Currently got an A6 black edition on 21’s which felt great on the test drive but after 18 months I can’t cope with it any longer. It’s too hard and too noisy over bumps. Obviously comes lower from the factory too.
Or should I be looking towards another spec? My only demands is heated screen so need winter pack. R design does look good tho

Think about getting the air suspension - it helps a lot, I have it on mine. Also don't get silly sized wheels.
Also check the seats, the XC90 comes with three different seat designs depending on spec - you might have a preference. Personally I found the R design seat over designed and uncomfortable.

We ended up with a spec'd up Momentum a few years ago.
End of the day these are a barge, so "sporty" doesn't come into it really (our mk1 was an R-design...not like it could be chucked about ).
Ours has 20" rims and std suspension. Rides fine.
Plenty of extras on ours, and am not entirely sure what is still available as Volvo messed about with the options packaging, but some I would definitely consider:
- Panoramic roof was a must for us. Really brightens the interior
- As does blond leather. Stands up to kids surprisingly well
- Nappa leather lifts the interior too (and wears well).
- As do the darker wood inlays. The interior looks and feels very high quality
- Larger digital instrument cluster also a must
I think the flush roof rails are a step back, as is not being able to have round exhaust tail pipes. But such is life Keep the exterior simple - it's an understated design with plenty of presence IMO.
If/as/when we get another, I'll probably be doing the same again.

I have an 18 Momentum - took this spec as it was a bit of a deal at the time.
If I was to do it again (and I definitely would) I'd agree larger display is a must - I would also opt for 360 camera and would like to try the air suspension.
Mine is on 19s and the ride is good but I suspect air suspension is even better.

I've got a 2018 Inscription Pro which I've had for 18 months, from me the must haves:
Tyres aren't cheap (21" wheels) - circa £275 a corner
PS. There is something glorious about being able to start the car from the comfort of your own home. Come outside to find the screens clear, heated seats and steering wheel toasty warm. Pure bliss
- 360 camera (it's a big car, although not much bigger than my previous XF Sportbrake it feels more cumbersome when parking)
- Large screen / infotainment (spotify is great, mine hasn't got apple/android carplay so i'm not sure if i'd miss it or not)
- Air suspension (I've not driven one without but heard it can be very firm)
- 3rd row air conditioning (the kids moan that it gets very warm in the boot space)
- The T8 engine

I am also looking at one on lease. The last T5's are quite attractive at £600pm on 1/23 for r design or inscription specs. Both get free metallic too.
As its lease there is no point loading with extras, just wondering if if the r design seats being half leather are up to it or whether inscription being full leather is the right model to have at this price range?

I didn't try the R but love the seats in my Inscription Pro. So comfortable and massage too. The only option I would make say go for is the pack that has the panoramic roof. The roof brings a lot more light in and adds the 360 camera which I think is a must
