AWD or FWD XC60?
Discussion
I'm ordering a MY2020 XC60 and looks like they've introduced a FWD variant to the mix.
I figure there's no real need for AWD for this kind of car so it's best to go for FWD for better MPG and lower overall cost. My dealer is quoting £1200 less for the FWD version.
I guess my main hesitation is that it just feels wrong to have a FWD SUV, but does that justify £1200 and lower MPG?

Not had the later 60 with 4wd , but traded a 60 plate in for a 2wd later one. 4 wd is great off the line as torque steer is a bit of an issue , if you make it. We had a D5 5 cyl auto first and D4 4cyl auto second and mpg is about 10 to 12 mpg better on a distance run. Car is quieter on 2 wd with trans noise at speed. Winter and snow is rubbish 2 wd and great 4wd with winter tyres. Depends on your useage too.

This was my thought when buying our XC60 last year.In the end we bought a FWD 2.0 D4 auto. What swung it in the end was lower MPG, EU6 (budget wouldn't stretch to a D5 EU6) and putting a decent set of Michelin Cross Climates.
As for the tyres, there was a noticeable different once the mid worn Pirellis came off with lower noise and more grip when pulling off.
