We recently bought a 2013 Volvo XC90 3.2 petrol.

After going through changing pretty much every suspension Bush and 4x shock absorbers (it's still clunking btw) We have noticed a very slight judder between 1800 and 2300 rpm. This occurs when accelerating gently and also when slowing down gently. Flat out acceleration and it's fine. Braking hard to come to a stop it's also fine.

Gearbox seems to work well although it's a little hesitant and hunts for a gear sometimes however I assumed this was a characteristic rather than a fault.

Sometimes moving between D and R and vice versa there is a noticeable jolt but this is intermittent and doesn't always happen.

Any ideas?

This car is driving me insane with constant faults, rattles and squeaks.

How many miles has it done? 50k-60k?

About 75k I think. Gearbox oil has been changed too.

Sorry not to reply for a bit (been away).

Have the wheel bearings ever been changed?

No worries,

I'm not sure to be honest. Nothing in the service history however US service history is a bit lacking and consists of only dealer stamps. (Its an USDM model reimported to Poland)

To me it feels like its slipping. in manual mode it feels better but the judder is still there smile

We had odd noises and vibrations on ours that got progressively worse. Rear wheel bearings. It's a known weak spot around the mileages we're talking about.

The jolt between D and R is normal.

Hunting for gears less so IME but possible depending on driving style (and mine was a diesel).

On a later model such as yours I didn't think there were many general weaknesses (early cars had 4wd system issues but they were broadly sorted around 09/10 I believe).

We had ours for 5-6yrs, a 2010 bought just under a year old. Great family wagons but the bills started to creep up at 75-100k miles which prompted moving to the mkII (leagues ahead of the mkI, but commensurately more expensive unfortunately).

Thanks for the reply and reassurance regarding the jolting, That was one of my major concerns but if its a case of "they all do that" then I can live with it smile

Local mechanic who happens to be ex Volvo main dealer is going to take a look next week. I'm astonished just how heavy these things are on bushes etc. We replaced most however the ARB links are now knocking.

I love the versatility of the thing and the fact I know my wife is safe when out on the road, I don't so much love the creaks and squeaks. Our other car is an LS430 with pretty high mileage and 8 years older and has remained pretty rattle free.

Mk2 in a year or so when prices come down slightly smile We looked at one in a dealership and it cost more than our house smile

I've had jolts from D to R on loads of different types of automatics, and it did it often on our XC90 so took it as "normal" smile

They're quite agricultural cars, but only really noticed when we got the mkII (my other cars are quite raw smile).

Versatility wise they are unbeatable IMO. Can't see us getting anything else while ever having 7 seats is useful. We tried all sorts (Disco, Q7, GL etc) and none were as versatile for our use. Q7 was closest but a lot more money and pretty dull looking smile

Good luck getting it sorted.

(Are houses cheap where you are, or Volvo expensive? smile).

I'm in Poland so property is very cheap in comparison to the UK and cars are about 30% more expensive than in the UK The XC90 T8 comes in at 530k Polish Zloty which is over 100k in real money.

We paid 300k PLN 65/70k GBP for a 240m2 4 bedroom house on a 2800m2 plot. Houses depreciate here in the same way cars do in the UK. Ours was started in 1967 and only finished in 2008 however it was "first registered" in 67 so the value reflects that.

I have a build thread here. Not much has happened over winter as its too cold to go cutting holes in the side of the house and disconnecting radiators etc.

(Slowly working through renovating as and when we get paid)

Cheers for your help, You've put my mind at rest! My wife loves the thing and I enjoy sitting in an armchair whilst greenlaning smile
