My Wife decided that she likes the look of the V40 so put down a deposit on a 65 plate R-Design this week, she will be picking it up on the weekend subject to them offering a good trade in value for her car.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has owned one of these and how was the ownership experience. Are they reliable, any known issues, niggles, etc ? and would you recommend one. We have both driven it and like the way it drives but as she will probably keep it for about 5 years we are curious on how it will fair over a long period.

It's a mature car in terms of tech as it's been on the market for quite a few years, so is unlikely to see the software update problems and niggles that owners of the other new Volvo models might encounter. I'd consider it very reliable, with the petrol autos coming out tops in that regard. The top complaints on V40 owners forums concern older diesel engines and clutches.
