Folks,

It’s nearly insurance renewal time so I was thinking of having a remap. Decent local company will do it for £250 and quotes a 30hp increase on stock 185bhp.

Any thoughts? It’s an 07 (Euro 4) 185hp auto D5 on 237000 miles.

1. Has anyone had it done and does it make a significant difference?
2. Will I kill my gearbox? Car is in great condition with FSH.
3. Is the EGR delete worth doing?

I had my 2006 185 D5 remapped and its so much more flexible. (220bhp / 500Nm) The extra torque comes in very useful. I did start to get intermittent clutch sip not long afterwards though. The DMF was quite worn out and the clutch was worn but not completely. A new genuine Volvo DMF and clutch and its been fine since.

Carful getting the EGR mapped out. Make sure they know what they are doing if they do. On the 185, the egr valve is opened when you lift off the throttle to dump boost pressure into the exhaust. If they map it out completely, you could loose driving refinement and possibly stall the turbo. best solution is EGR mapped out but retain lift off part and then you will be very happy.

some remaps run very rich at high RPMs and smoke, but with a DPF you wont see this. This will work the DPF harder so you might get more frequent regens and lower fuel consumption as a result.

Interesting stuff, thanks. Didn’t know about the EGR thing. Slightly thinking I’m tempting fate at this mileage!

My EGR valve probably needs a good clean

C30D5 mapped. done 20,000 now with no issues. Actually getting 5 mpg more after map. D5 is already a powerful car so standard mechanicals should be ok for a stage one.

Extra performance is noticeable and your smile will be that little bit wider for a few hundred quid. . Isnt that what true petrolheads aim for?

Do it and enjoy. smile

Was just about to post this very topic myself. Toying with having my D5 remapped (185) but will it be better for it?

My eu3 is going to Shemtek in a couple of weekends for a gbox oil flush, and a service.

Thought I may as well get a remap while it's there smile

Ah y’see... EU3 far less complex in terms of DPF and emissions etc.

I’ve nearly. Talked myself into it although the insurance renewal has now passed so I’ll cost me more money.

I’d hope they wouldn’t charge at or much? I’ve got2 D5s a V50 184bhp and an XC70 which is 327bhp. Same engine different outputs 33bhp difference.

Did it in the end. Absolutely excellent. Bit more power across the Rev range but also very noticeably quicker throttle response. For £250 odd, well worth it.

Can I ask where you went for that? I’ve got a 2007 185 AWD and feel it needs a bit more urgency low down the rev range. A gentle remap to get the turbo spooling up a bit earlier would be ideal.

Mates rates local auto electrician, suspect it’s a pretty generic map!
