Got my XC60 Inscription D4 on March 9th and now done 13750 miles

The Service Schedule has just shown up saying Service is due now.

Obviously it is not 1 year old or done 18000 Miles so just wondered if I can spin it out or just need to get it done now?

I'm guessing the "1 Year " started before the car was mine.

Its on a 2 year Lease and was hoping to only need 1 service (at £270) , at this rate will need a 2nd before I return it.

Thanks for any advice

I'm in a similar boat, so would also appreciate any advice. My service light has been on for a little while but I've only done 6,000 and my lease started end of January, so I was thinking it was just a message to get it booked in.

I was hoping I could eek it out to early Feb (just after 1 year) and then wouldn't need the second service, but I can't easily find any information on how much slack you have on the service interval with Volvo.

Obviously I'd rather avoid ALD turning around and saying I've not serviced it in line with the manufacturers plan. Does anyone know where this info is contained?

My V90 arrived 1 month early and sat around at the dealer until they registered it
The first service is due in the 11th month of my ownership

Hope this helps

Just as an update

My car is leased directly from Volvo , I have spoken to the Service Dept at the Supplying Dealer and he said ,

"don't worry just book it in on 18K or 1 Year Old whichever is first"

So I'm going to go with that....

Hopefully useful for someone

I’m interested in this too

My XC was delivered to the dealer on 20/3 and I took delivery 13/4/18

So the OBC states the service is due 20th March. So neither 1yr into my ownership nor 18k miles.

I assume this will be the case for the second year service too, so it’ll be due before I return the car.

Has your supplying dealer stated the first year can be applied from when you received the car?

The MOT wouldn’t be due 3 years after taking delivery, it’d be 3 years after being registered. So the car will be due a service 1 year after first being registered, surely? Ownership / length in possession shouldn’t come into it.

As stated above this is not my experience

So as soon as the car arrives at the dealer, the service timer starts ticking? Not when registered? Not good news for 2 year leasers then.

That is my experience, although I'm on 18 months smile

Just an update if anyones interested….
I rang the Service Dept at the supplying dealer and he said yes its 1 year or 18,000 Miles
I booked in for 14th March at which point will be just under 18,000 miles.

I previously had a merc and a BMW both on 2 year leases. And were mileage dependant for servicing so got away with the 1 service.

I will hand the bar back on 9th March 2020 so very much hoping to avoid that second service

Will update again after the 14th

Hi all

An update from me on this. I called Volvo and they told me you have a 1 month grace period before you invalidate the warranty. So if you delay the first service slightly a few weeks, then they will reset the timer and it should take you past the point on the second service due to after when your car needs to go back.

Now, the caveats. It’s probably worth reading the terms of your contract carefully. I interpret mine as being “in line with manaufacturer terms” which in my view I haven’t breached by doing this.

As an aside, I think it’s pretty scammy that any finance company expects you to service a car right before you give it back. I know people will say it’s in the contract blah blah but you are paying to make sure someone else’s next year in a car you don’t own is a problem free one.

Had my service done yesterday, Slightly over the 1 year old showing 17,000 Miles.

Courtesy Car Included and the cost of £257.00, I will return it early March 2020 just before its 2nd service is needed so should avoid the cost but if not then its not the end of the world.

Did you service your car in line with the OBC or starting from when you took delivery? How much over the first year were you?

Mine is showing a couple of days over on the Sensus screen.

Cheers

I serviced it about a week after 1 year of having the car. Basically ignored the OBC but was still under the 18K service indicator (actual 17K)

The Dealer has added a reminder sticker in the windscreen saying Next Service 14th March or 35,000 Miles whichever is first. SInce I will return it very early March and should just be under the 35K.

Just booked mine in via Volvo Huddersfield. Will be almost 30 days over service schedule but only on 10,000 miles. Service guy said not to worry. Paying £230 + free courtesy car.

Mine will be 2 weeks over when it’s booked in. I might try and get another week or so out of it.

£230 seems cheap. I was quoted £305.

They matched the price of a local Volvo independent who quoted £230 using Volvo parts. I just casually asked whether they would match it and they did.

That’s good to know. I’ll be doing the same once mine comes around

"Scammy" is a bit harsh. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay if I didn't have to, but the deal with many cars is they're serviced every 12 months, and strictly speaking that means just before 12 months. So it's not unreasonable / unexpected to have to get the car serviced twice if you have it for two years.

If you don't get it serviced and then it sits around for a bit, the next thing is the person who buys it posts on here saying the warranty is invalid on the 2yr old car they just bought because it was late being serviced.
