Hi all

I thought I would share my experiences with my S90 D5 R-Design. I was lucky enough to bag a mega cheap MY18 lease model which was delivered early September.

The car is standard other than 21 inch wheels, dimming mirrors and dark tints.

It has just ticked over the 5000 mile mark and as my first Volvo I am impressed, my previous car was a golf Gtd.

Things I like:

Comfort, it just eats the miles with ease and I can get out after a long journey feeling fresh where as I often has a sore back with other cars

The power delivery, it just surges along with the Awd system when you put your foot with instant grip

Economy, for a large car 47-50 mpg seen regularly on long runs, however town driving I get around 25!

Looks, with the 21s it does stand out and I get lots of comments

Now the negatives (and there are not many):

The 21s do make the ride quite noisey and rough on poorly maintained or concrete roads

Also the tyres are already about half warn and at about £230 per corner it’s going to be expensive quite soon!

The infotainment can be a bit fiddly when making changes on the go.

Finally it can be a pig to park in small spaces!!

As to problems nothing major to report, it went to Volvo for its 3000 mile health check and other than a squeaking brake (which they could not fix) there was only one issue which was the Adsm was not talking to the Ecu what ever that means so did a software download to fix the problem.(I’ve not noticed anything different)

So all in all it’s been a pleasant 2.5 months, would be interested to hear other experiences.

Thanks

T4 V90 here with 28 miles on the clock so keen to read your write up but unable to contribute much in return

The tyres are a bit of a worry though - have you checked the pressures?
I ran a RR Sport on 20's which is a much heavier bus than the S90 and Pirelli Scorpions lasted easily over 20k miles with somewhat 'spirited' driving

Any chance of an update? How are the tyres holding out?

Still running well with no issues.

8000 miles in now and general average mpg is around 45, town driving is mid 30s with long journeys at high 40s as a guide I get about 150 miles per quarter on the gauge.

Tyres are diminishing fast fronts wearing slightly more than the rears but I expect I may get around 10-12k out of them before they hit the wear blocks which is not great!

The only thing which bugs me is parking, the size of the thing means I have to pick my spaces carefully!! Also with rear sensors only it can be a challenge.

Also I cannot stand eco mode, it seems to dull the throttle response and race to get the car to 8th gear and is far to eager to coast which means you are on the brakes a lot more in traffic rather than easing off.

Other than that I get lots of good comments and generally am really pleased with the car.

Is it the size of the car or the turning circle that makes parking a challenge?

S90 D5 Inscription here and fully agree with comment about doing miles in comfort. I do about 80 miles a day and feel refreshed.
For the money I don't think you can get anything better. Mine came full of toys including massage seats.
Parking can be challenging if you are not used to the size but the 360 camera helps.

Quick update for other S90 users.

Now up to 17000 miles, amazingly tyres still hanging in there, the first few MM went quickly but I think there is about 3mm on the front and 4mm on the back. Being £250 a corner I want to get the max out of them.

First service is due soon, the car says it’s due at about 18500 or another 64 days (service clock had already ticked down a month when I got it!) so will get to the mileage first. Still shocked at the price of a service for how little they will actually do to the car but nothing I can do about it.

MPG average 44 in total, about 49/50 on a long run and 35/38 in town and country roads. Not bad considering the added AWD weight. It’s not the fastest car in the world but off a roundabout it does surprise a few people.

Still finding parking a nightmare, wish i had the 360 view pack, I am tired looking for spaces in car parks where it actually fits!! Also I do not understand why multi story car parks ramps are so narrow!!!

Anyway still loving the car.
