2008 C70 T5 - Auto gearbox fault?
Discussion
Hi - I recently test drove a 2008 Volvo C70 Coupe/convertible.
The car is fitted with the geartronic transmission.
I couldn't really fault the, Suspension felt fresh, steering fine, it stopped strait and true, tracked nicely, everything worked and the engine felt very on song.
But i cant help feeling there is an issue with the box.... It seemed to work faultlessness and seamless in every aspect APART from when coming to a stop at a junction for example. The car would come to a full stop and then a very brief moment later it would seem to thump into whatever gear it rests in (When in drive). It made no difference if i was in sport or not and it was subtle (but i just dont think it felt right)....
Is this a common issue? Or even an issue at all?
All other shifts up and down the box (in D or using +/- in manual mode) were spot on.
I should point out that i am a Brit, living in South Australia and its the only one for sale in a 300km radius. Otherwise i would drive another one (or few) to compare.

The geartronic gearbox has a number of common faults, so it could be an early indication of problems to come or possibly something less serious like a transmission bushing needing replacing
The faults have been well documented on various forums so might be worth having a look to see if you can find similar examples of the conditions you felt. Faults manifest themselves in a number of ways so diagnosis isn’t so straightforward.
But that doesn’t sound like normal operation. For comparison my v70 doesn’t do that when coming to a stop.
What sort of milage does he car have? Boxes are supposedly sealed for life but it’s nonsense and require a full flush and new oil.
The box in the c70 will be the same as the unit in the V70 / S60 should help broaden your research.
Good luck
