I have been looking for an S40 or V50 for a few weeks and an 07 v50 D5 SE Sport has popped up for sale locally with 78k miles for £5490.

Currently have a Mini Roadster but we now need more space!

Just wondering what they are like in terms of reliability etc.

Cheers

Mine is 10yrs old, 150k miles. Never had a fault, wear and tear items replaced only.
Some people seem to have electrical issues with them and various warning issues but no issues here.
The D5 engine seems largely bulletproof but can give an engine warning if the engine oil is filled over 2 thirds maximum.
Go to volvoforums.co.uk for lots of info

I ran a V50 D5 SE Lux for a couple of years - no sugnificant issues, just regular servincing.

re the oil level - there was a recall because a fault light would come on if you filled the oil to the top mark on the dipstick. Volvo's 'fix' was to put a sticker on the car saying not to fill it to the top!!!!

Very good as an estate car - mine didn't have a bluetooth so I fitted GROM kit which was good but you lose the use of the CD player.
Performance and economy were both very good. It handles nicely too but there's a bit of body roll if you are pushing on.

Echo the above. Have had mine 4 years (manual), nothing but wear and tear, absolutely reliable. Mine pinged an oil light warning when I changed the oil myself, it has to be at a very certain level and filling to top of dipstick sets it off. Local volvo indie plugged it in and took some out and never had an issue since.

Had this issue myself, just got my V50 2007, 2.0L petrol a few weeks ago, had a check engine oil reminder light come on when 300 miles from home, but had checked before I left home so knew there was plenty in it, can only assume this is the same issue as oil well up dipstick, should I try and suck a few hundred mls out? The message has not come up since though.
