C30 warning in flooding

After heavy rains we had local flooding 10- 12cms deep. Other cars were driving through easily. When I drove my C30 D3 through, quite slowly, it stopped.
Water has entered the engine and bent a conrod.
The design of the air intake looks very weak. The face is near the top and travels horizontally across to the air filter and then horizontally back to the turbo. So it flows easily downhill once entered.
The grill is an egg box rather than louver so water can easily enter the system and flow into the engine. I later discovered that another C30 had also died in a similar way, so it does look like a design fault. No one is going to drive into 2 feet of water, so the inlet could be much lower so the water would have to flow uphill. In the absence of a louver the opening could point down rather than horizontal.
Two very minor details but it’s going to be expensive to repair. So my warning is if you see potential flooding - avoid it.
So expensive to repair with VOLVO bits it looks like it will be written off, for peanuts.
