A quick google suggests this is a bit of a pita. Has anyone managed this an easy way without making anything else on the car stop working properly?

Wiring it to the auto-dimming mirror seems convenient but then apparently the casing is easy to break/hard to fit back on...

What’s up with using a piggyback fuse?

The A-pillars have airbags in I believe, so not easy to route a cable down them.

Also finding an always-on connection isn't easy?

Ive got pillar air bags in my VW and routed the cable no issue. You dont really want an always on power source. A switched live it more preferable unless you are using a power controller.

I have a V60, and my dash cam is connected to the fusebox. The wires are inside the a-pillar which has the airbags. Halfords fitted mine.

I have this on my E class and our V70 (old one but still has A pillar airbags) - just put the cable in the small gap between the glass and the pillar. No problem.

For power I just put the supply under the dash - take off the access panel on the end (where you'd access the fuses) and install one of these....
