Might be a strange question, but I bought an approved used XC60 about a year ago. It's a 15 plate R-Design AWD.

It's only just dawned on me that on the remote fobs there is a button which would seem to be a button to release / open the boot, but which does nothing. There is also a button to the right hand side of the steering column with the same picture on it, but which again does nothing.

Should said buttons do something? Seems a bit odd to have buttons on the remote and in the car for a (potential) option which the car does not have? Is there a way of finding this out?

The button you're describing is to unlock or lock only the boot, rather than all doors.

Only Lux models get the auto boot as standard for that year iirc.

You need to hold that button down for 2/3 seconds on the remote. Same with the button next to your steering wheel.

Does the underside of your hatch have a button on it (for closing it again)?
