XC90 stereo head unit - paired to the car?

Hi

I need to replace the head unit on my XC90 stereo.....it suddenly won’t turn on. Display flashe on for two seconds, no sound and most of the controls don’t work.

Is it paired to the car electronically, or can I just get one from a breaker and fit it?
