Saw one in the flesh today. Its a very nice looking car and better in real life than any pictures. Wasnt sure about it before we saw it , but the wife seems pretty smitten by it. We werent supposed to see it, but they didnt hide it very well at the dealers, as the launch date is Thursday this week. Seems sizewise not much in it between our XC60 and this, other than a lower roofline . Bonnet/ front end is shorter . Was in a metallic grey and black R design roof.
We are heading to the launch on Thursday , as there is a draw for wining one . Yes, I win nothing, but if you want to go to your local dealer and enter then you need to go to www.xc40event.co.uk and book your code to enter.

They are nice, but the price is
T5 first editions are well north of €70k here, which is frankly far too much for its segment/class.
The R design first edition here was £38k , which is 2k less than my last of the old XC60's new and about £6k to £8k less than the next XC60 of the same loaded spec.T5 first editions are well north of €70k here, which is frankly far too much for its segment/class.

Must be honest I was tempted by the first edition last week looking at the spec.Gone for the 60 in the end though
Yes, I am looking forward to go to the launch on Thursday at my local dealer .
Does anyone have any experience of the latest 2.0L turbo petrol engines, I looking to buy a car for long term & keep it for many years.
Will a modern Volvo last the time like they used to ?
I currently have a 19 year old RAV 4 & would like to replace it with something which will last like my trusty Toyota has & is still going strong ?

Went to the preview this evening. Having read reviews and perused the Volvo website I was hot to trot.
In the flesh it was a bit of a let down being claustrophobic, clunky and not luxurious. This could be due to the grey paint and R-Design trim. I'll have to wait to see if it's better in Inscription trim with blonde leather.

We had a D4 R design to look at which we actually quite liked. A bit more compact than the 60 widthwise. All the T5 first editions sold out before the evening started. So if we want one it would be a T5 with speccing up, which means some bits wont be on it for the same price. A few cheap trimming noted. We found the new shape XC60 seemed huge in comparison to our current end of last range one. Going to go for a test drive soon. An no one knows if they won the new car as the system didnt work at our dealer.
I’ve ended up swapping to a 40 now as was able to get a first edition
Agree about the claustrophobic comment earlier as they do feel smaller than the 60 but I really liked it. Prefer the interior of the 60 by far but the spec of the first edition has won me over.
Get it at end of April.

I guess you had the D4 , as the T5's are already gone. What colour did you go for ? We are still waiting on Volvo to come back to us on a deal at the moment.
Yes D4, which i was going for in the 60 anyway. Only annoyance is its with 19's as they've run out of 20's but as I'm leasing I'm not 'as' fussed.Gone for Osmium Grey, which was also what I was going for in the 60. Just think it contrasts well.
The interior isn't a patch on the 60 IMO as the 60 feels more luxurious but the spec of the 40 just did it for me.

The car we saw last Saturday was the Osmium grey , with black roof and the wife said ' thats the colour, no question' Sounds great. We have the D4 in our current XC60, as only 8 months old. Same engine version and gearbox and is nice, but we prefer a petrol for this, with a view to keeping a while. One thing no one knew about at the open evening was the adblue under the filler cap and kept pointing as to what it might be.
My original intention was to get an XC60 on a 2yr lease then go for the PHEV/hybrid XC40 model which I'd expect to have been out by the end of that lease. It was just the spec of the first edition that I couldn't ignore. Had to go with diesel myself just because I'm changing jobs and giving up a fuel card (so my fuel costs will be full as opposed to 40p in the £).
Tried to get a First Edition T5 today. There might be one and I'm waiting for a call back tomorrow.
There are plenty of diesels though.
I've been saying for months anyone buying a diesel now would be the equivalent of buying a fur coat 20 years ago. Public hysteria has set the tide. To cap it all Porsche withdrew diesels from sale.

Hope you get one. Just fyi the dealer told me they are out of 20" wheels so worth checking. There are plenty of diesels though.

Has anyone driven petrol?
