Hi, looking for some opinions on a 2009 volvo V70 2.0d SE Lux, it’s in perfect condition and only done 25,000 miles, been offered it by a family member as they are getting a new car, they’ve had it since new. I currently drive a 2011 VW golf estate 2.0tdi sportline and done just over 100,000 miles and car is running absolutely perfectly, and really like it performance. Considering the change mainly based on the mileage.

Wondering what people’s opinions on the Volvo is, are they a good solid car, what’s the reliability like on them, what are they like to drive, is it a good idea to change, daily commuting about 50 miles, doing around 20,000 miles a year, like estates as good for the family with two little kids.

The low miles on that for the year might introduce some reliability issues but overall, they are nice barges.

What sort of reliability issues could there be?

The V70 is a decent car and a good thing to commute in. There are a few things to look out for and a google should flag up most of them. If it's an auto, they often benefit from a gearbox oil-change. I really like mine, and reckon it's a much nicer car than a Golf.

This isn't unique to V70s but low mileage cars can suffer with electrical gremlins, premature battery failure, bits sticking and seizing, grease going hard in parts like window mechanisms, wipers etc.

Things are not so bad if it has been stored in a dry garage but age will still take its toll.

I can't speak for a "new" Volvo (mine is 1999 on (221,900miles))

But I love it..... I have had to have a new rear window (alarm)

Crankcase seal leak

Fuel pump pulley belt (recently)

Plus the usual cambelts every 80k, about 3/4 sets of brake disc's

car runs a dream, wifey uses it for stop/start commute about 25 miles each way

can fit in 5 adults, can fill up with a shed load of crap for the dump, can get in 4 large suitcases, does 40-50 mpg depending on what run you are doing

get the Volvo smile
