Afternoon Guys, I'm thinking of changing my 2005.2.4 DSE for a later V70 and wondered about what the 1.6 diesel is like to live with?

great spec..terrible advert!

not a v70 but a colleague had a 1.6d v40 and complained that it was noisy, vibrated and boost came in quite late for a modern diesel. I'd imagine it would be quiet and realmpg suggests about 50mpg combined which isnt bad for such a big barge.

ad claims 0-60 in 8? more like 12 with a tail wind

a proper waftmobile and ideal for long motorway journeys id say

I'm doing 25000 ish miles PA now days which is pretty much motorway all the time so maybe I should look at a V40 or V60 as well, I do like my Volvo's and ask a lot from my old cars!

Agree dreadful advert!

The v70 is a 2 tonne car. I wouldn't want a puny 1.6 hauling it.

My wife has the 2.0 D3 (163) and it is not a fast vehicle. The 1.6 must be grim, but passable. Weird spec, that advertised car too. Pimped interior and R-Design with the bling wheels, but no Xenon headlamps and that tiny engine.

If it's the same as the V40 "D2", then that little 1.6 is actually a Peugeot engine;

We've run one for 2 1/2 years now, it's not as grim as some would make out. It's surprisingly eager for the heavy car / small engine combination that it is. There are times you think twice about an A road overtake, but itll hold motorway speeds easily enough.

My wife drives it daily, after a mapped 1.9 diesel Zafira that was comically quick for a mumbus. She accepts that it's slower off the mark or building speed up, but her overall journey times are no different, despite 'missing' 50 or 60 bhp.
