Thinking on getting one of these. Really love the interior. Any owners out there or people who have taken one for a test drive?
Recommend, yes or no?

It isn't though, is it? Volvo is Chinese-funded these days, in common with much else, but it's still a Volvo. I think the S and V90 looks fantastic, but diesel-only puts me right off.

Test drove S90 D4 recently as candidate to replace my 15 plate Merc C300h.
Loving the tech and safety features which is better than the Merc, seats felt comfier than the Merc although only went for 30 min test drive.
However doesn't really feel nice to drive, perhaps should've test drove a D5 but felt under powered and not as dynamic as the Merc. Interior felt a bit cheap too but perhaps that's just my expectations.
I might try to test drive a D5 with B&W sound system to see if it will change my mind.

No, other than it is built in China using Chinese labour and mainly Chinese sourced components and sub assemblies but nothing wrong with that?

It's a little like saying iPhones are Chinese.

Clearly the saving in labour costs is passed directly to the consumer giving us great quality low cost high quality products.

Oh, maybe not.

I hadn't realised they were assembled/'made' in China. Maybe my defence of the Swedes was premature!

I'm not sure where the V90 is built but the plan is for more models to be built in China. There is a new rail link which means finished cars come overland.

I took out a D4 R Design for an extended test over the weekend as a possible replacement for my C220d AMG Line Estate.

I thought the build quality and interior were certainly at the appropriate level for where the car is priced and the safety equipment and technology were better than the Mercedes.

Standard specifications are more than adequate, with plenty of options available.

With the R design interior, it is very black inside but I quite like that.

The engine has plenty of poke but obviously it is pulling a car of some size but performance did not feel down on the 220d.

Interestingly, I have been using a 250d recently and that was certainly more responsive.

The main difference was the gearbox which does seem to be a little ponderous on changes but it certainly sharpens up with the selection of the Dynamic mode.

Fuel consumption was difficult to determine but seemed to be very good indeed despite giving it a hard time to test performance!

The car in huge inside as is the boot and the convenience of folding rear seats extended the capacity even more. Interestingly, the car is the same width as the C class but certainly feels bigger but is a good bit longer.

Certainly causes people to look at it, as it is not a common sight on the road yet.

Overall, I was very impressed with car as a package.

Me too, and came to a similar conclusion to you.

Sure, it's not going to win any races but it's more than adequate for what I want it for.

Looking forward to getting it now.

ETA. Did you test it at Ray Chapman?

Yep.

Ray Chapman in York.

Very accommodating and friendly.

Have used them previously when I had a couple of V70's and now seriously considering returning to them again.

Sorry to hear that your delivery has been put back.....mine is due on the 20 March 2018!

As I understand it, the fault lies with the manufactures themselves and the way the cars are delivered via rail across Siberia!

I have spoken to a number of dealers during my planning and all have said the same.

That is why I was keen to get my order in promptly as my present car goes back beginning of April.

Hopefully Chapmans will redeem themselves in due course with you!

What spec and colour have you gone for?

Ha!

I spoke too soon.

Had a call from the dealer last night to say that my delivery is now put back to early May 2018!

They have found a similar car that will be available sooner although this has options that I do not want or need. They still want me to pay for those options which I am arguing with at this stage.

Otherwise I am left without a car for almost 3 months as they say they can't let me have a loan car as they are all out already because of earlier delivery date issue with other customers!

This car was ordered in October and Volvo cannot deliver until May! No wonder you don't see too many S90s on the road!

Very poor for a major manufacturer.

Sorely tempted to cancel the order and start the search for an alternative again.

Shame.

As I pointed out earlier this is a chinese built car differentiated otherwise only by a volvo badge.

The manufacturer no doubt has some glitches in its supply chain..... what will it be like for an owner when the same problems arise with parts....?

As I am leasing the new car, any problems will be for the dealer to resolve and they will have to keep me on the road if parts supply is a problem.

Dealership and Volvo have now agreed to supply the slightly higher spec car for the originally agreed price.

Delivery date is now back to March 2018.....

I'll report again if any more issues........

Surely it is a Volvo which is only differentiated from others in that it happens to be built in China.

This isn't some cheap Chinese knock off copy but a proper modern Volvo built in a state of the art plant by a well trained highly skilled and capable workforce.

I've just spoken to the dealer who now tell me that delivery to them will be 23rd, with me receiving the car beginning of March.

However, they won't guarantee that as it's not under their direct control.

I've also found another S90 (available immediately) with a different spec and have asked them to absorb the difference.

Spotted my first S90 saloon the other day. Unfortunately one of the rear lights on one side of the boot lid had packed in, leaving it looking distinctly odd.

Just did a 6 hour round trip in the courtesy V90 loan car.

Not entirely impressed and am now seriously considering binning the order and getting something else.

What didn't you like? Was it the engine?
