Volvo V40 2015 Key
Discussion
Hi,
Can anyone advise me I have just purchased a V40 with only one key, I have repaired this car from cat D and the previous owners company have binned the key. Volvo want £110 for a virgin key with no metal key part and 1hr £90.00 to program it. I have tried a few guys I know and no joy with Volvos so wondering if anyone knows a company who can clone my key or perhaps reprogram a s/h key from e-bay perhaps.
New to this site so hope this post is going to the right area. Thanks to everyone Paul

Afraid not, you just need to bend over and grit your teeth. They need the Volvo software to pair the key with the car, even the dodgy pirated versions every man and his dog owns can't do it as you need a software download from Volvo to pair the key with the car. Make sure they remove the old key at the same time.
A properly equipped Volvo specialist should be able to better the labour cost though.

All though not the same model car mine is a V50, the key needs programming with Volvo software. My key stopped working and wouldn't open the car even though it would still start the car once I used the metal spade key to open the door. Volvo wanted £90 just to diagnose the problem. In the end it cost just over £300 for a new key and a cut spade insert. (Yes a new battery was tried twice)
I did read up online to see if there where other options to get a replacement key but in the end it went to Volvo. In and out in a day.

I have a few car dealer mates and they usually use a place called KAP Autolocks who really know their stuff..... EXCEPT Volvos - I had this exact issue a few years ago and they said it was pretty well the only key they couldn't do, so it would have cost £240 (2005 V70).
Things may have changed since then, of course - that would have been 2013.
