Hi all,

Looking for a big estate as a spare car/tip run kind of car.

Came across a 2001 V70 2.4 petrol auto with 173k miles. What things should I be looking out for?

If bodywork is fine I was planning to just have a good service like oil, filters, brake fluid, sparkplugs if needed camvelt and water pump changing belt tensioner and idle tensioner at the same time. I can do most if this so should be reasonably cheaper in part costs. Am I mad? Any other suggestion for a 1k budget?

Thanks

croakey

We ran a V70 2.4T for a couple of years up to 185k miles (from about 120k miles). We had what I believe from online research were fairly standard issues. Suspension parts I.e. Top mounts on the front suspension, track rod ends and bushes wore out. The master cylinder for the brakes had to be replaced and the connections on the steering wheel and the column stalks also failed though with these parts and the brake cylinder we chose to buy used parts given the cost of new replacement parts. I over serviced it and the other common thing is that the alarm service light comes on.

The car never let us down and we liked it so much we bought an S60 D5 to replace it - they've got some the most comfortable seats you can find though the turning circle is like that of a supertanker!
