Volvo's PINCODE banditry.
Discussion
Interesting development in a similar area to Volvo's gauging its customers by putting up pincode barriers since around '08 to prevent owners from getting work done outside the dealer network or those independents held to ransom in having to pay the extortionate fees for access to the mainframe..... or performance modifications for that matter.

Within it is contained information concerning this https://www.copyright.gov/1201/ which has then prompted this from John Deere.... https://www.deere.com/privacy_and_da...tware-EULA....
Don.
PS maybe the chinese gangster fraternity have bought an interest in John Deere..... through nominees in the BVI naturally.

It has been thus for a long time now. Not quite sure what you're indignant about? People hacking software? The need to hack it? Manufacturers potentially suing because you've hacked it? Not sure.
I think cars are worse - I had a Renault megane on Friday with a power steering motor that needed to be one time coded to the car - you can't use a used one without hacking the software. Tell me why that is a security issue??. But as auto electricians we do this all the time.
Go on, clarify your beef.

Dealers won't program a used part so you are forced to buy a brand new module at oem prices, then pay to have it installed and coded.
Unless you can find someone who has the hooky software to do it of course.
Used parts often have to be deprogrammed before removal or they become useless, no dealer will do that for you.
