Volvo Selekt Event Proves Expensive

Despite not being in any major rush (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=1643210), Volvo's Seekt event has prompted a purchase and cost me dear
I didn't try a petrol version in the end, despite the apparent jihad on diesels. But do think the XC90 is the pick of the current 7 seaters, for our needs at least. Really lovely cars.
If it's anything like our last one we'll run this to close to 100k miles, and with current mileage that may mean 8-10yrs. Unless the government ends up killing diesels before then. But until then, I am very much looking forward to getting to know the new car

Ta.The quality of the interior is a league above the old car and I would say right up there with the best. It's a fantastic place to sit.
If it's as reliable as the old one it should be a decent machine. My 4yr old is going to miss the old one (he exclaimed when he realised the grey one was being p/x'd), but I suspect one ride in he new one staring out of the sunroof and he won't look back.
A slight shame the car is a fraction old to have Powerpulse...but it drove nicely.

I fell into the same trap/offer. I'm now the proud owner of a lightly used T6 XC90 instead of a lightly used 5-series touring. I was a total sucker for the 0%. The day the car was delivered I packed the family and 2 hours on from signing the handover paper work the sat nav was set for France. It's the first petrol car I've owned and while I do miss the motorway torque I'll take that on the chin for the lack of rattle at start up and driving around town. It's a great car. My Mrs wasn't having a brown one at all. She couldn't stand the stigma of telling people she has a brown Volvo So we ended up with an Ember Black one...which looks brown when it catches the sun! (And is a great colour - even though I swore I'd never buy a black car again.My only regret? I'm a bit gutted it wasn't in brown..
We're loving the car very much. Such a step on from the mk1.
We had issues getting Volvo On Call working at the dealer on pick up. Got to the point where if we agreed to take the car, they'd pick it up a few days later and leave us a loaner until it was fixed (mainly just the remote app that wouldn't work). Wasn't 100% sure about this, but needn't have worried. The "fault" cleared itself 30mins into the run home and has never reappeared.
The Sensus system also rebooted itself on collection day once home, but that was after being sat in the drive for an hour with the engine off fiddling with all the settings, getting the media system "just so" etc. Again, not happened since.
And finally the stop/start system didn't want to activate for the first couple of days. But that's now working fully too.
I've put all three "issues" down to the battery probably not being fully charged owing to the car being sat at the dealer/being transported around (or me fiddling!). A good run and all issues disappeared. With the car now in regular use for at least 20mins a drive, the battery stays topped up. The dealer wasn't convinced by this theory, but having had a couple of other modern cars that throw wobblers if the battery isn't charged properly it makes sense to me. But if any of these do recur, I'll get the dealer to sort
I'm very happy that all the tech's working as the car feels designed with it all in mind. Every bit of it seems to have a decent purpose and is very nicely designed/thought through with very, very few items they could have done better (not being able to put the ETA in the driver's display satnav; the USB function in the media system doesn't work with tags properly; it could do with more USB charge points....think that's about it thus far). All of this from someone who couldn't really see the point of auto wipers, headlights and seat heaters not long ago....I'm obviously getting old fast!
Even the remote app is handy - when it's freezing outside, being able to start the car from indoors, defrost the windows and get the interior starting to warm (including heated wheel on) is a luxury that will be hard to do without in future
The interior feels like a special place to sit - ours has the soft leather in blond with dark wood inserts - and the kids love it (the panoramic roof and illumination kit keep them fascinated).
Even the diesel engine isn't as bad as I was expecting. It's better than the mk1 in terms of ability to get the car moving, and you only really hear it when you need to put your foot down (which isn't really how these are intended to be driven most of the time). Ours is a little too early (by a couple of months) to have the Powerpulse system which is a shame. But it works OK.
Really pleased with it and would very much recommend one to anyone looking for a 7 seater - it's the best package out there for that purpose IMO. They're a lot more expensive than the mk1, but you know why the second you start playing with one.
