New XC90 feedback
Discussion
Love mine, 6 months old, 8500 miles (4000 of them in the first 6 weeks) log onto Volvo owners forum , lots of info on there.
A few people complaining about road noise, but they have the larger wheels , mine are the std 19" ones.
Mine is averaging around 35 mpg (my old XC90 doing the same mix would show 27 mpg) .
Thee are a few small issues I have had, one is the car telling me my wipers have failed (they haven't) and a pipe needs replacing on the powerpulse system (car still drives normally) which makes a hissing sound when I stop. But other than that it is fantastic, I can start it from my phone, it has the fancy bending headlamps, 360 camera and the heated steering wheel is just a joy at this time of year!
Get yourself booked in for a 24hr test drive!

Bought ours (D5 R-Design) in October 15.
Had a few niggles (aircon hissing; battery on low charge due to electrics not shutting off correctly when locking the car) which I am okay about when it's a brand new car design.
Biggest problem is the dealer. This is an expensive car competing against the prestige brands, but the service is frankly rubbish. Poor communication, missed appointments, failed attempts to fix the problems first time, the list is a long one! I'd expect more if I'd bought a second hand Volvo yet alone a £55k car.
The car itself is fantastic, a real step-up from the previous generation. Long distances can be covered in comfort, fits 5 people and a load of luggage and dog easily. New central infotainment display and TFT dials are easy to read and provide all the information required. Engine is pokey enough and a big step up from my last XC90. I also like the look of the XC90, more so than the latest gen X5.
So, car is great and if you have a good dealer I'd give it serious consideration.

Apparently they have a new tyre being evaluated. A friend has one and Volvo are contributing 75% and the dealer 25% of the cost, even though they have done 10k miles. Might be worth talking to the dealer. I can check which size they are if you like.
I had the car all of Saturday on Demo.
I was really really impressed.
The Tech was great and the feel, design and finish was excellent.
The boot was monstrous.
I think more importantly for me its seat was way better than the X5.
As my 5 series has near crippled me I need a good seat.
Down to working out the money and tax liability now.
It looks around thirty quid a month more expensive and slightly less on the mileage allowance as I need 50K a year.

I looked at the Volvo and the new Audi Q7 and went for the Q7 .
I am really pleased with it ,31 mpg .
It's the first car I have had with a rear view camera which is brilliant when reversing.
CarWow got me an excellent discount on the purchase.
we did the same. We liked the XC90 drove ok, everything was ok. Interior was very nice and would say better then the Q7 but was worried over the reliability of the infotainment setup as read a number of issues on that - hopefully fixed now I am really pleased with it ,31 mpg .

We Drove the Q7 and instantlly it felt right - it was a step up in terms of the driving experience over the xc 90. Interior is also ok/nice but just driving it awas what my wife was more after over the xc90. Liked the xc90 but not for us so went for the Q7 with the larger engine 275bhp and air suspension.
2 adults/3 children /1 dog and caravan.
We also looked at the Q7 - too expensive like for like, and the only thing it beat the Volvo in was it being more car like with a does more poke.
But as the family wagon, this was less of a concern than all the other areas for us.
The Q7's a lovely car though, so in no way a bad choice - it's just a bit more "office attire" than "smart casual"

Have had to reduce the Car value to £40K so its back to the drawing board for me.
Probably a Disco Sport in some guise.
Can you not buy lightly used?Probably a Disco Sport in some guise.
The Disco Sport is a different class of car. Much smaller (though 5 up it's fine) and cheaper feeling (as I suspect I may have upset some on the Land Rover section about - off to check now ).
Oh, and a spec'd up Disco Sport isn't a cheap car!

Work are very good to me so I am towing the line on this one.
The DS will do great.
I tested one for a day my only worry was the MPG but stories on forums are showing better figures now.
Probably more capable off road which is a bonus as my hobby takes me where a decent off road car is best.
