Hello there.
I am looking for a S60 2.0T and I would have a few questions for the on who owned/ still own it.
The thing is that i pay 700 insurrance on a 03 plate Focus and I would pay like 40 quid more if I had this one, so why not get from A to B in a much more comfortable way? I am looking for manual and somewhat low mileage. My questions now: Why are they so cheap? Other than the usual S60 problems (front tyre and suspension wear) what should I look for? turbo failure? rust (if any)? MPG? Anything what I missed?
Many thanks in advance

Any p2 car made before 2004 has an inherent speedo issue - it dies completely.
Pre 2003 cars also suffer throttle failure.
Both of these issues can be expensive to sort.
Nearly all early cars have galactic mileage too.
All these issues make for a potential bargain if you find the right one.

No one really wants the 2.0t thats why they are cheap. They want the T5 with 60 more horses.
We have one, the mrs uses it. I got it for me as I needed something safer than my old 19 16V to carry the kids about in and it had a popped headgasket. £250 delivered.
This is an insurance story.
I bought an S60 D5 163 2004 vintage for her to use to take the girls to dancing etc, all good got it cheap (usual D5 issues). Called up to insure it for her and it was around £700.
F that, so we checked the price for the 2001 2.0t which is £330 a year. So the argument on the phone went why is it more than double to insure a much lower spec, slower newer car, answer was because its a diesel. Ok then..
So I now have the D5 to run about in.
The 2.0t is faster than the 163 by quite a bit but it needs to be revved. The diesel feels faster due to the torque surge but the speedo never lies.
The D5 everyone claims they get 1k out the tank, half that and its realistic. I generally average about 500 miles to tank. the best was 730 miles which I have managed twice. I have a spreadsheet for costs an mileage since I got it as I use it for my business parts getter.
The 2.0 gets around 300 to a tank of her running about. Best tank on that was about 450 miles.
From the light on its around £80 to fill.
As for faults all the usual stuff which affects them all. Parts aren't cheap. It'll need maintained, on the volvo forums theres some real clowns, some claim to be very experienced. Prime example is water pumps, they fail. Its claimed they don't but they do. Engine mount will also be screwed so bet on them needing done. Drop links are a yearly swap, meyle hd are touted as the best, but in my experience just as crap as the rest including genuine units. Top mounts are also an annual change, the rubber seperates.
The 2.0T are usually well specced, the diesels are hit and miss as I think some were base spec so they could be got on company car schemes.
My current Volvo selection consists of, 2001 s80 T6, 2001 S60 2.0T and the 2004 S60 D5. I own a garage and have fixed countless others so know them pretty well.
