Post 2013 D4 (190) engine
Discussion
Dear Volvo PHers,
Everyone talks about DPF and DMF failures in modern diesel engines, but I wondered if the new D4 is better than expected/hoped/feared?
I drive about 10 miles to work each way, partly on motorway. In the middle of the day, I have a but of 1-2 mile stop/start driving. Once a week, I usually have a 60 mile round trip for work.
I can already hear PHers shout "Get a petrol!", and I would normally say the same. I'm mulling over V40/V60's and while my mileage (10,000 pa) isn't really right for a diesel car, there are many more diesel D4's than petrol T4/5's out there.
Is a new D4 a proposition I'd want to own/hang onto for 5-8 years? Or should I keep hunting for a T4/5? (Or revert to Octavia vRS/Focus ST searches?)
Thanks muchly,
Blearyeyedboy

I don't know specifically about the D4 2.0 engine you're talking about, the 181ps engine, but it seems most DPFs need to regenerate every 300 miles or so. If you're going a 60 mile journey once a week that should be sufficient as long as you spend half an hour on a dual carriageway at 50ish or so.
There seems to have been quite a few issues with the EGR valves on the new VEA D4. I've recently swapped my T2 for a D4 and have been a bit underwhelmed to be honest. Not that refined, not the torque monster the stats would suggest and the build quality seems to have taken a bit of a dive (lots of little penny pinching items missing, rattles after only a few thousand miles).
