S80 T6 2.9 - should I?
Discussion
I have a 2001 in gold.
The maintenance wasn't done on it before I got it. So needed a thorough clean internally (sump off and scrubbed and scrubbed the block inside too) and 2 new turbos.
Yes the engine needs to come out to do it. No issue for me I own a garage.
The gearbox is what everyone whines about I have had no issue. Indeed it was the only system on the car to have no fault codes and none have came back.
However I recomend you manually shift it to keep the temps down on it and it enables you to make progress nicely.
I have the dash issue which despite promising early repair is acting up still.
It surprises many other cars on the road. But only if you shift for it. If you leave it in drive its in 4th gear by 35mph and labours. 2nd gear is good for over 80 in it.
My engine needs to come out again as it has the sticking oil relief valve as its the crap plastic one. So I havent used it for months. But I do miss it mostly for winding people up in it.

Ive had mine for 6+ yrs (im 41 and have never kept a car for more than 2!) Ill echo the above about gearbox. Ive never had one issue. Bought mine at 90k (timing belt due around then BTW) and it now has 138k on it. Powerful, superb on A roads/motorways + quiet as a whisper. They go through front tyres, and front suspension parts probably a bit more than most cars (heavy at the front end) but ive never had any issues beyond normal wear and tear to be honest. I constantly look at changing cars but theres nothing thats made me pull the trigger yet. They come fantastically equipped. It does 20mpg round town and 30 on motorways. I just keep mine serviced at a local indy and it feels like it will run for ever.

If you can then I would say yes. Having had mine now for 3 weeks (last car was written off by a third party) we looked around for a replacement for the S type Jag I suddenly remembered what a very good friend said of these and have to say he was spot in. The T6 is refined as a motorway muncher ad in wafts along but has the ability to shock a lot of vehicles when the need arises.
Mine only had 65000 on the clock and every service stamped in the book along with receipts for other work including timing belt and parts for the water pump all carried out at main dealer. Here's mine below
