XC 90 '53 Auto t6 Oil leak
Discussion
Hi there, I'm new here. I've owned my xc 90 for about 9 months now, handed down by someone who went overseas. I love it!!!!
I've had a few maintenance problems, bearing etc but nothing major.
I now have an oil leak, which seems to be coming from the head gasket area, been told it's the head gasket needs doing, about £1500. But there is no water loss, or water in the oil, or oil in water, or smoke coming from exhaust. Other people have said there is no way it could be the head gasket.
I have been shown, where the oil is coming from, and seen it myself when the engine is running, top left.
Can anyone advise. Is it worth spending the money, have 235000 on the clock, but it runs like a dream. Could it be something else, or is there another alternative to fixing the leak i.e. leak sealer.
All advice welcome. Thank you.

is not just a leaky cam seal? - quite common on the T5 engines so I'm guessing the T6 is no different - I'd also check the breather system - A blocked one can cause the rear main seal to blow - pricey to fix but not HG pricey - if it is the cam seal it is an easy fix
Thanks for that info, as I'm no mechanic, can you let me know which side, where abouts in the engine this would be. Just need another opinion as to what it could be. as both mechanics who looked at it didn't really investigate it properly, and just presumed it was head gasket. Thanks for your advice

It will be on the opposite end to the cambelt so should be on the right hand side of the engine bay as you stand facing it:
Its on the end of the engine where the oil cap is in this picture
No, its on the other side, near the cam belt. It seems to be coming from somewhere near there, below the exhaust manifold I thinkIts on the end of the engine where the oil cap is in this picture
