The car in question is 2.0L 10 valve petrol engine and mechanically it's been fine for the last 3 years I've owned it. However about a month ago I was driving back from town and it started spluttering pulling away from a set of lights, I did my best to try and nurse it home but it full on conked out on me. Luckily there was roadside parking and I managed to coast it into a space, the AA guy comes out and says he reckons it's the spark plugs and when he pulls them it's clear it needs a new set (a tad annoying as that should have been done by the garage a month before at a service!). The car was fine after that until Friday night, it'd been perfectly fine from Reading up until Piccadilly Circus where the same thing happened and it died on me again at a set of lights. Again AA man comes out and got it started but couldn't find anything to suggest a problem other than the fuel pump could be intermittently playing up explaining why it's fine then decides not to be fine.
My question is has anyone had similar problems and is there anything else worth checking for issues? Fuel pumps are so cheap that I'm going to get one ordered this week and have that replaced just to be safe but figured I'd ask the collective on here for any other pointers.

TIA
George

The fuel pump relay does intermittently play up on them some times - I'd replace it as matter of course as it is simple and cheap to do so. Additionally the fuel pumps themselves do play up from time to time as well. Again, a second hand replacement is easily sourced and a cinch to fit - I'd replace the fuel tank inspection hole o-ring whilst you're there. The only other problem I can think it might be is a faulty cam sensor.
