V60 D5 R-Design advice please....

Hi all,
Looking at possibly getting the above car either an 11/12 plate prob with 60-90k miles (manual).
Are there any common faults to watch out for?
Also, I am having trouble finding out what was standard equipment and what was an option...
- Sat- Nav - standard?
- Half leather - standard?
- Heated seats - optional?
Lastly, can anyone advise on the real world mpg? I find it hard to believe that a car with 5 cylinders and 215hp will average 60+mpg.
Oh, and can the start/stop be turned off?

I don't have one so can't comment on faults but as for equipment.
Sat nav is an option.
Leather is an option and worth having on those earlier models.
Heated seats an option but fitted to most.
Even rear parking sensors are an option, not standard.
Great looking cars and when I drove one was well impressed.

Great cars, much under rated - particularly in D5 guise as it really is a great engine - such a shame Volvo have discontinued it now in favour of the new 4-cyclinders, but that's progress i guess.
I don't believe there are masses to look for as regard faults, there was a batch of weak clutches on the manual version which is worth bearing in mind, but at the mileage your looking at it will most likely have been dealt with under warranty by now if it had one of that batch - mine is a 2013 model and the clutch went at 20,000 miles.
History check should show if its been done, otherwise the usual test of putting into a high gear at a lowish speed to check for slipping under load.
Economy isn't too bad, but doubt you will get close to 60mpg!
Mine has a bike rack permanently fixed to the roof which obviously doesn't help, but removing this and driving fairly gently, on a long run of m/way and A roads i can get high 50's. Heavy town driving will see this drop to around 40mpg.
You can turn the stop start off, but the system works well enough and is pretty unobtrusive.
If you can find one with sat-nav you'll also get the larger screen in the dash - the basic display is rather small and looks a bit lost!
I spec'd the premium system when i ordered mine, 650 watts and lots of settings means it can be configured to suit most tastes, although it does lack a little bass. IMO Volvo's should have good sound systems though, so worth looking for.
I wouldn't discount a nicely spec'd SE Lux if one of those crops up either, although they are a little more colour / wheel choice sensitive - if your bothered about such things! A colleague ran one in that spec and in some situations the slightly softer suspension and smaller wheels actually made for a better drive, plus they have more standard equipment.
Mine is a co car and gets replaced next year and i'm really going to miss the twin turbo 5-cyclinder, no idea what to replace it with!

Just bought that exact car; 2012MY (61-plate) V70 D5 R-Design, 69k miles, manual, £12k from a car supermarket. Had to put a deposit down over the phone, unseen (no pictures even up on their website!) as good, well-priced ones tend to get snapped up very quickly.Sea-Doo said:

Sat-nav and heated seats are options, leather seems standard on the R-Design. As others have said, in general the R-Design cars are very low spec, most I saw had little or no options. If you want toys, maybe go SE Lux or Premium. In fact, the car works better in that spec I think, it's more of a cruiser, the R-Design look and ride is a bit at odds with that at times.- Sat- Nav - standard?

I got 50+ mpg when I picked mine up a few weeks ago, but that was a constant 50mph for 100 miles up the M6 (Birmingham to Manchester). On my normal commute (Manchester to Sheffield, so 40 miles each way of motorway, A-roads, hills and traffic jams, I can see 40mpg if I'm being good, but it'll drop to low 30s if you're having fun. Oh, and can the start/stop be turned off?!
Got about 650 miles out of the first tank, think it was 42-43mpg overall. About what I expected; basically if you feather the throttle everywhere and aren't sat in traffic, it's possible you'll see mpg in the 50s but if you thrash it, expect low 30s or even 20s.
Love mine so far though, great car to cover miles in and not a BM, Audi or Merc, which ticks all my boxes...
