Currently looking for a (diesel) V70, budget of around £12k which means I'm looking at 2009ish - 2012ish depending on mileage. Quite fancy a D5 but if not, would be happy with the 2.0 5-cyl, but I'm getting confused about the D3 and D4 models' power output.

D3 163 is a 2.0 5-cyl, right? From 2009-2012ish (up to 2012MY), then for the facelift 2012MY its a slightly revised 2.0 5-cyl, same bhp but supposedly improved? And the D4 is a 2.0 4-cyl (181)? Or is the D4 the new 163 and the D3 drops to 136? Or the D3 was always available in two states of tune?

I'm confused as hell!!

Basically, is this the 163 or 181; http://www.carselect.co.uk/used-car/details/153745...

And this; http://www.lkcmotors.co.uk/used-cars/worksop-notts... 163 D3, right?

And when did the facelift (2012MY?) actually come out?

I've seen 11-plate cars with the new wheels / interior (eg http://www.drbcarsales.co.uk/used-cars/volvo-v70-2... but then some 61 and 12-plates in the older style; just unregistered stock that took a while to shift?

This might help :

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_V70

Looks like the 2011-12 D3 is an inline five 2 litre with 163bhp
2013 D3 is the same but with only 136bhp
D4 (introduced 2013) is a 2.4 with 163bhp

I reckon both cars are 163's, but the D4 is likely to be a 2.4 rather than a 2 litre.

Thanks; I'm not 100% sure that Wiki is correct for UK models, as our D4 is a 2.0 not a 2.4, or so I've read elsewhere?

Both show as 2.0 on the adverts, and also on DVLA reg checker (although doesn't specify 4- or 5-cyl). Really confusing!!

Might just have to buy a D5, to be sure exactly what I'm getting!!

Ended up buying a D5 (2012MY 215bhp), picked it up yesterday.

First impressions are very good, exactly what I was hoping for (nice quiet comfy motorway cruiser with a decent turn of pace when required)...
