V70 - what could possibly go wrong?!
Discussion
Been to see a V70 which seems decent on the face of it. It's a D5 SE and appears to suffer from that most common of Volvo problems relating to the dash not working, specifically the message screen. When I turned it on the yellow warning light came on and went out shortly after but I cannot read the screen to understand the problem.
How wide is the range of issues covered by yellow - is it just screenwash and bulb issues or are we talking potential abs and worse? It's a private sale and I do not have any diagnostic equipment, am I going to lose my shirt taking a punt on this?

Quoted from my "5 quid alarm bodge" thread on VPCUK.ORG...
Those of you have owned an early P2 will probably be familiar with the message "alarm system service required " and it's been bugging me since we got the car. I wasn't prepared to justify 150 quid to sort it so I've been scouring the scrappys for one. Now, I'm aware that there's a good chance of getting another faulty one so I've been pulling them out of the scrap cars and splitting the modules on the spot. Today I got lucky - found a dead S80, ripped the wing off and inside was an encouragingly shiny siren module so I got busy with the screwdrivers, and found the inside not only clean but it had 2009 stamped on the pcb. Woohoo!
Now I'm also very lazy and I couldn't be arsed with removing wheels, lights, arch liners and even removing the old siren lol. What I did was remove all the bolts that hold the upper wing to the body and pull it out enough to get my hand inside to remove the plug from the back of the module. I wrapped the new module in a rag and taped it. I then stuffed it inside the wing, wedging it in firmly. Put all the bolts back and did the reset procedure.
Happy days... No orange triangle, no annoying message when I turn the key and bloody hell it's loud when it goes off.
Fiver well spent
