Real XC70 MPG?
Discussion
I am thinking of buying a 2009 XC70 185bhp. Does anyone have any real experience of the true MPG I am likely to see? My driving is mostly motorway at pretty sensible speeds. Reviews seem to suggest low 30s as an average. I am hoping a lot of Motorway will put it somewhere in the late 30s...am I dreaming?
I have a 185 D5 V70 AWD, which is almost the same thing. From the on board computer which I think is about 10% optimistic I see 42mpg+ on the motorway often with a bike on the roof. In general pottering usually about 38+ mpg. Fuel consumption drops noticeably above 70mph. Have seen 50+mpg in gentle cruising.
I'm currently running a 2007 XC70 D5 SE Lux Geartronic, it's done 133,000 now
Since Feb when I bought mine I've done 9300 miles, by the end of the week that'll have tripped over 10,000, and according to my fuel.ly page it's averaging 35.3 MPG
Most of my driving is motorway, but the car always has a loaded boot of equipment
The newer model will most likely be more efficient than mine, but mid-high thirties is eminently achievable, which for a 4x4 tank isn't too bad in my book
Hope that helps

Thats interesting to know. I am currently looking at the running costs of an XC70 myself, probably a 2010/11 model.
Im only getting 38-42mpg out of my company car (SEAT Alhambra 2.0ecomotive DSG) so stepping up to a 4x4 Im hoping wont be a shock.
The newer models are more fuel efficient than the outgoing Phase II Volvos, and the Alhambra is a big bus of a thingIm only getting 38-42mpg out of my company car (SEAT Alhambra 2.0ecomotive DSG) so stepping up to a 4x4 Im hoping wont be a shock.
It'll depend on how you drive obviously, but 38mpg won't be unobtainable, given that you can coax ~40mpg from the Seat I doubt you'll be so shocked by the XC
