Depends what you want from them really and this is always a big can of worms on the Volvo - specific forums but for a perfect all-rounder (see what I did there?) I use Avon ZV5 XL. They grip superbly in all conditions, last well and are nice and quiet on the road. They're well known and very popular among Volvo enthusiasts.Just bought a 2004 C70 Convertible 2.4 GT. For 225 45 17, I pay about £170 a pair from National Tyres (buy one get one free offer).

I'm lying! I used Camskill in January and paid £168 for a pair delivered.The first pair came from black circles in July 2012 and cost me £193 for the pair. They were on the rears from then until January this year when I swapped them to the fronts. There's more tread left on them than the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance which I put on my wife's people carrier which does less miles and has an engine the size of a gnat... Don't get those!

I nice little trick with National Tyres is to ask for the old tyres back (take them down the tip, grow spuds in them - whatever) and they wave the disposal fee, saving you another £7

Don't know on those as I paid Platinum in Swindon £130 to refurbish a pair of wheels, make them round again, dispose of the old tyres and fit the new ones. Last time I paid for just fitting and disposal was £22 for a pair for the wife's car. Cool - glad you're pleased.
There's a few other things you can do to improve the feel of the car - for about £60 you can powerflex bushes for your wishbones, takes an afternoon to fit and changes the front end completely.
Rear chassis brace (quite expensive iirc) will keep the back end in check when trying to get off a roundabout quickly
