Couple of years ago, my drivers side window kept sticking when I pressed the down button, eventually the mechanism failed and the window fell down with a crash, the repair which needed a new regulator cost nearly £500.
Recently it is playing up again, press down, opens a few inches and stops. I have to actually to press down and pull the window down. Passengers window has never failed.
I assume I need to lubricate something, like the rear vertical side of the window as it slides down in the rubber, is that right?
And what would you use?
Anybody had same problem?

you want to try lubricating it first - don't keep using it in its current state or you'll either burn out the regulator or snap the mechanism - if it goes all together then buy a second hand regulator as £500 is ridiculous - bloody S80s - my least favorite volvo purely because parts are so inexplicably expensive for them.
try some liberal dosing of this (or similar) on the runners first to see if it cures it -

The passenger side normally always goes first through lack of use so its weird the drivers side is playing up - its a good idea to lube and use all the windows on the car regularly. That said, with air con these days windows are opened far less on cars

Dont be tempted to keep raising and lowering the window - thats what buggers it and = the £500 repair bill.
The door card is extremely easy to remove, and it should either be a free, or minimal cost repair (the new blue clips are pence or pounds from the dealer).
Good luck, its perfectly DIYable. Its a bit of a pisstake that the dealers charge you for a new regulator, as I think more often than not, its only the runners that need sorting.
Thank you for that, alls clear now.The door card is extremely easy to remove, and it should either be a free, or minimal cost repair (the new blue clips are pence or pounds from the dealer).
