Our 04 XC90 D5 is due for its next service at 112k.
It has a mix of dealer and Indy servicing but I'm thinking of doing this service myself as we have no plans to sell the car in the next couple of years.
The cambelt was done at the last service so this one should be fairly simple.
I used to service my own cars a few years ago but have never serviced a diesel.
So what's the difference and what would need to be replaced at this time? Is there a way of resetting the service msg without going back to the dealer?

Should be easy depends how far you want to go -

Here's what I would do.

Essential: Oil and filter, air filter, check brakes (pads, discs and calipers - discs should be clean on BOTH sides) Adjust handbrake on the rear drums, check condition of tyres, tyre pressures (including the spare), check levels - brake fluid (level and condition, should be golden and clear.) Check auto gearbox level (in all gears with engine running)(auto only), check PAS fluid level and condition. Check condition of wiper blades, top up washer bottle.

Recommended: Clean out throttle body, check and clean out EGR valve, check condition of auxiliary drive belts.

Optional (depending on bravery and budget): Change pollen filter, Remove glow plugs and check efficiency using a 12v supply. Fuel filter (depending on mileage - every 50k or so is fine). Flush transmission and change fluid (auto only). Check condition of Haldex system and service if necessary (specialist job really), Cambelt where necessary

Sounds like a lot but trust me when I say most garages only do the top two items - and even then they don;t do it very well.
