Ok, so this might sound bizarre, but I need to find out what engine I have.

The car is badged, and was sold on the original 1994 invoice as a 1.8 Si. It's the facelift model.

DVLA and V5 says it is the 1721 engine, but googling suggests it should be the 1794 engine.

Currently has a 1.7 exhaust on it (as 1.8 exhaust doesn't fit!).

I thought the 1721 only ran to '92. Any thoughts?

I would suggest it's the 1721cc - if you take a pic should be able to tell

There is a silver plate on the block to right hand side of the oil filter quite low down...

It will say B18FP or similar....

Thanks to Solo2, according to Volvo and the chassis number it should have a B18FP engine ... But the silver plate says B18EP!

As a long time Volvo 480 enthusiast (owned 7 of the blighters), I remember there being about 5 variants of the 1721cc engine over a few year period. Not un-surprising the engine differs from the marketing/Volvo systems.

For what it's worth, the 1.7cc lump is loads better than the 1.8 anyway!
