In my quest for a comfy cruiser to do about 12-15k a year in, I've stumbled across the latest S60 model. I like the looks, the spec is perfect for me (even the base ES model!), the power/performance figures look about right for a cruiser and the price seems very good - about £9-10k for a 2010/11 model.
That said, I've not knowingly seen many on the road and some Googling doesn't reveal much in the way of reported issues or common problems with the cars. I'm specifically looking for a 6 speed manual.
Any advice?

One thing that I didn't like, after talking to an owner, is the lack of spare wheel. Not only that but a lack of somewhere to put a spare wheel, should you decide to buy one. You get a zippy-bag to keep it in while it skids about in the boot. That said, I've not knowingly seen many on the road and some Googling doesn't reveal much in the way of reported issues or common problems with the cars. Other than that, I'd have one in a heartbeat (black with 18" Ixion wheels)
Have a look at my "Garage" review of a company car V60 D5 SE Lux that I'm running at the moment.
The S/V60 is a really good car IMO. Watch out for the very hard-to-fathom engine naming conventions though; e.g. a pre-2012 D3 will be a 5-cylinder 2.0 diesel with 163PS, whereas it's called a D4 from that point onwards with no other changes. The specs are very high, but even so it's worth seeking out the SE Lux or R-Design Lux cars if you can find one.

I have a 2011 S60 2.0 with the 164hp 5 cylinder engine, it is the SE LUX version but it came from Volvo loaded with almost all options.
I like it very much, comfortable, economical difficult to fault, apart from load carrying capacity and the lack of a spare wheel.
I travel to France maybe 5 times a year and always struggle to get in everything that I [think] I need, however I had a much bigger vehicle previously and had the same issue, so maybe it is just me.
I have done 40k now without problems, I keep looking at Mercedes E Class but to match the spec I have now, it would probably be £40k + and I am not sure I would get the same comfort and that to me is the most important requirement.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice folks.
I'm not too worried about the interal space - I'm usually in the car on my own or worst (!) case, with my OH; the lack of spare wheel or the non sports car performance. It does seem to fit the bill of something comfy to do my commute in - that, having enough punch for motorway cruising and reliability are my main criteria.
I'll try and take a test drive just after Christmas.
