i have just noticed oil is leaking around the filter after getting the car serviced 4 weeks ago.
Dipstick is showing the sump in half full after 500miles ekk.
Is this a common problem with the Ford peugeot diesels?
Will it be okay to drive 50 miles to take it back to where I got serviced or should I take it some where more local to ge it fixed.
Not sure how much pressure the oil system runs at so don't know if I have done any damage to the engine and turbo bearings by having a leaking filter.
If I remember correctly the oil get fitered before entering the sump so I think it should be okay .

Thanks

Just keep an eye on the level and top it up if needed - I would think it would be fine doing 50miles - you can tighten it up yourself - they are only plastic - either a large adjustable spanner or filter wrench would be enough - they either not tightened it enough, not replaced or forgotten to fit the o-ring seal or both

If you are going to tighten it yourself, don't over do it - they only need nipping up

Maybe when the garage fitted the new filter they forgot to put a smear of oil around the rubber gasket. .
You dont have to go mad when tightening an oil filter as I tightening by hand is ample. .
Can you get to your oil filter from above. If so it may be worth trying to give it a tweak.

it lost a quater of it oil level in a 8 mile round trip. I think i need to get it on a Jack I track the leak it properly before I drive anywhere.
Tried tweaking the the cap by hand but it seemed tight enough.

I'd take it back pronto to get them to sort it. Top it up before you go and you'll be fine! Sounds like they might have cross threaded it.

Has the sump plug been tighten properly or have they over tightened it and wrecked the aluminium washer?

the plastic cover for the filter has an o-ring that should be replaced each time, either they havn't replaced it or more likley chewed it up when re-fitting, take it back and get them to sort it!

eta - it's not a standard filter, it's an element with a plastic cover and an o-ring, the cover is a bh to get at so cross threading is also a possibility!
